The Research Group on Scholarly Book (ÍLIA) belonging to the CSIC is specialized in the study of the scholarly book and the sector which creates it. By focusing on it we intend to expand the knowledge about scientific communication, particularly in the area of Humanities and Social Sciences, employing methodologies both qualitative and quantitative.
Our group intends to offer a perspective of the book from the point of view of the academia as a generator of content, analyzing the relationship with publishers, librarians, evaluation agencies, professional associations and book industry.
Books must be the cornerstone of evaluation processes in Humanities and Social Sciences. Otherwise, the work of humanists and social scientists would be judged according to the working habits of other disciplines. In the evaluation of the curriculum vitae of humanists and of some social scientists, assigning more weight to scholarly books is a natural and fair claim.
